Safety Equipment

The following safety equipment is recommended for use. The personnel should be trained in the use of the following equipment:

  • Safety Helmets
  • Hearing Protection
  • Safety Goggles
  • Gloves
  • Safety Shoes
  • Safety Harness
  • Self-Contained Respiratory Mask
  • Explosion Proof Lighting
  • Non-Sparking Tools
  • Fire Extinguisher
  • First Aid Kit
  • Oxygen, explosive gas, hydrogen sulfide, and noxious gas monitor
  • Adequate Warning Signs
  • Life rings around water holding basins
  • Overalls, rubber shoes, goggles, and gloves for operators working in chemical areas
  • Portable lighting equipment approved for use in explosive atmospheres

All persons working around chemicals must wear protective clothing as well as close-fitting safety goggles. Face shields may be worn in addition to, but not instead of, goggles. Gloves, boots, aprons, and other clothing made of rubber or rubber-covered cloth give good protection because rubber is resistant to most chemicals.

Clothing made of polyvinyl chloride also gives good protection. People working where chemical dust or mist is present should wear approved dust-type respirators. Inhalation of dust or mist will irritate the respiratory tract. Areas where chemical dust or mist is present should be well ventilated.
