Maintenance items for the backwash waste pumps include the following:
- Daily: Check for proper operation and alignment of pump equipment; perform routine housekeeping.
- Weekly: Clean oil, dust, water and chemicals from the exterior of motor. Make sure motor air intake and outlets (fan cooled motor) are unobstructed.
- Monthly: Lubricate the bearings on the pumps. Inspect the mechanical seal. Check for unusual noise, vibration, and bearing temperature. Check the pump and piping for leaks.
- Quarterly: Check pump mounting bolts and tighten if necessary.
- Annually: Measure total dynamic head and flow of pump. Take power readings. Compare with initial record of pump efficiency. Replace wear parts as necessary.
- Special Conditions: Following a storm event, inspect the BWW Basin for storm water debris and remove material that may cause damage to the BWW pumps.
Hardcopies of manufacturer’s O&M manuals are on file at the WTP and should be consulted for a complete list of required preventive maintenance items, as well as for major maintenance items or in the event of equipment failure.
