Maintenance

Maintenance items for the Alum system includes the following:

  • Daily: Check for proper operation of pump and system components. Inspect for the presence of any abnormal noise, excessive vibration, low flow and pressure output or high temperatures. Check for leaks. Inspect for lose head, valves, cap, and nuts. Check display for maintenance indication.
  • Weekly: General housekeeping. Calibrate pumps in manual and automatic mode.
  • Monthly: Check feed lines for accumulation of residue and clean or flush lines as necessary. Clean external pump surfaces with a dry, clean cloth.
  • Quarterly: Exercise isolation valves. Check for leaks around fittings and tubing. Take appropriate action to correct leaks by tightening fittings or replacing components. Keep the pump free of dirt and debris. If the pump has been out of service for a month or longer, clear the pump head valve assemblies by pumping fresh water for approximately 30 minutes. If the pump does not operate normally after this “purging run”, consult manufacturer’s O&M material. Replace damaged head screws if necessary.
  • Annually: Thoroughly inspect and clean unit. Check fittings, tubing and components.

Maintenance items for the Polymer 1, 2, and 3 systems includes the following:

Repeated short-term deterioration of valve seats and balls usually indicates a need to review the suitability of wetted materials selected for the application.

  • Annually: Thoroughly inspect and clean unit. Check fittings, tubing and components. Check diaphragm and replace if necessary.

Hardcopies of manufacturer’s O&M manuals are on file at the WTP and should be consulted for a complete list of required preventive maintenance items, as well as for major maintenance items or in the event of equipment failure.
